Properly fill your plaster pool to preserve the condition of the plaster.

Swimming pools come in a variety of sizes and styles, and are constructed out of many different types of materials. Materials including gunite, cement, vinyl liners and plaster commonly form the pool body. Plaster pool bodies are sturdy structures that hold the pool's water well. Due to the way plaster pools are constructed, special care should be taken when filling a newly plastered or re-plastered pool. Instructions

    • 1

Dry the pool plaster thoroughly. Several days in a dry environment ensures the plaster hardens correctly and cannot slough off into the pool when water is introduced.

    • 2

Lower a water hose into the pool bottom. Position a soft wash cloth or rag under the water hose. The cloth prevents the water from the water hose from etching away at the plaster when filling begins.

    • 3

Fill the pool to halfway up the skimmer. Run the pool filter to remove any milky residue that may have entered the pool from the dry plaster.

Tips & Warnings

  • Regularly balance the water levels of the plaster pool to keep the plaster in good condition.
