      Move the tree near an electrical outlet. Keep the long branches at the base of the tree at least 6 inches from the wall.

      Plug the power cord at the base of the tree into an extension cord.

      Insert the end of the extension cord into the nearby electrical outlet. Try another outlet and extension cord if the lights on the Christmas tree do not come on. Bend the branches so the tree can be moved right up next to the wall and plug the power cord directly into an outlet to test the lights themselves.
