Light a Reddy Heater Kerosene Heater

Reddy Heater is a brand of salamander heater manufactured by Desa International. The heaters are designed to run on kerosene, but you can also run them on No. 2 fuel oil and No. 1 or No. 2 diesel fuel. Reddy Heaters use either a spark plug or a HSI (hot surface ignitor) pilot light for ignition. Because they burn kerosene, diesel or fuel oil and produce fumes that are dangerous in high concentration, Reddy Heater kerosene heaters are only suitable for use in well-ventilated areas. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the Reddy Heater into a standard 120V/60Hz electrical outlet or an extension cord. Extension cords less than 100 feet long should be labeled No. 14 or a lower number, indicating a heavier cord.

    • 2

Adjust the thermostat on the Reddy Heater if the model you are using is equipped with one. The thermostat is a dial on either the side or the back of the heater.

    • 3

Turn the power switch on. The heater will cycle quietly for a moment or two before coming on; this is normal.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the pilot light or spark plug fail to ignite the heater after a few moments, they need to be serviced or replaced. The heater's ignition source should come on automatically after you turn on the power switch.

  • A Reddy Heater gets extremely hot when in use. Always keep children and pets away from the unit when it's turned on.
