How to Check the CPU Temperature in BIOS

CPU (processor) temperature is an important parameter to monitor on your computer. The maximum temperature for the majority of CPU models is in the range 65 to 75 Celsius. If the CPU temperature exceeds the maximum allowed limit, it may cause random computer reboots, system failure--a blue screen in Windows--or even a permanent damage to your processor. Basic Input-Output System (BIOS) is a special program embedded into a motherboard. BIOS initiates all hardware when the computer starts. BIOS on many motherboards also allows you to monitor the hardware status, including CPU temperature.

Step 1

Restart your computer.

Step 2

Wait until you see the message "Press [key] to enter SETUP" on the bottom of the screen. Typical keys to enter the BIOS setup are "Delete," "F1" or "F2."

Step 3

Press the appropriate key on the keyboard to enter the BIOS.

Step 4

Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate the BIOS menu typically called, "Hardware monitor" or "PC Status." Then press "Enter."

Step 5

Read the processor temperature in the line "CPU Temperature." The temperature is typically reported in both Celsius and Fahrenheit.
