Set SMART goals and double your chances of success.

SMART is an acronym that stands for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timely. Each of those words are characteristics of an effective goal. When a goal is written to be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely, it is more likely to be met. A SMART goals worksheet is a tool you can use to track your goals. Writing your goals down is an effective way to accomplish them.

Instructions

    • 1

Set your goals to make sure they adhere to the SMART concept, which is that your goals should be a declaration and not a wish. Your goals should be both short and long term.

    • 2

Write a title for your SMART goals worksheet. It could be something like "John's SMART Goals."

    • 3

Move two spaces down on your sheet of paper and write the word "Specific." Then draw three to four lines.

    • 4

Write the word "Measurable," two spaces down from the last line drawn. Draw two to three lines directly after.

    • 5

Write the word "Achievable," two spaces down from the last line drawn. Draw two to three lines directly after.

    • 6

Continue in this manner until you have a space for each letter in the acronym. You've just made a template for your SMART goals worksheet.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make copies of your new SMART goals template. Place a sticky with "template" written on it and place it on the original. You can also make worksheet and save on the computer for each access.
