Unfortunately, a deep scratch stands out on stainless steel, detracting from the glossy surface, and catching dust and dirt, thus making the blemish more noticeable. Removing the scratch requires sanding the mark without damaging the surface and following any grain within the stainless steel. Things You'll Need

  • #0000 grit sandpaper
  • Sponge
  • Cloth
  • Olive oil
  • Stainless steel cleaner

      Soak a #0000 grit piece of sandpaper in water in a sink. Allow the sandpaper to become limp.

      Wipe dirt from within the scratch on the Frigidaire stainless steel with a damp sponge. Dry the area with a clean cloth.

      Pour 2 tbsp. olive oil onto a soft cloth and rub it into the scratch. Remove the sandpaper from the sink and position it at the bottom edge of the scratch.

      Examine the grain of the stainless steel. Work the sandpaper in the same direction as the grain. Put light pressure on the sandpaper as you slowly rub it along the scratch. Rub two to three times over the scratch and inspect the area.

      Wipe residue from the scratch with a clean cloth for better inspection. Add another teaspoon of olive oil to the cloth and rub it into the remainder of the scratch. Continue sanding with the sandpaper and inspecting until the scratch has disappeared. Apply additional olive oil as needed.

      Spray the area with a stainless steel cleaner. Wipe the surface with a clean cloth, removing residue and olive oil completely.
