How to Wire a SkyCaddie SG3

How to Wire a SkyCaddie SG3 thumbnail
Golf GPS devices can help you stick it close to the pin.

Golf GPS devices can improve your game dramatically, or at the very least help you make key decisions about which club to use in a given situation. The popular SkyCaddie golf GPS devices provide yardage information on pin placement, sand traps and water hazards, among other features. To use the SkyCaddie 3G, you have to wire it to your computer to download the information for the course you are going to play.

Instructions

  1. Install Software

    • 1

Insert the SkyCaddie Desktop CD into your computer. You must install the software to allow the SkyCaddie to connect to the SkyCaddie website.

    • 2

Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.

    • 3

Double-click on the "My Computer" icon if the installation instructions do not immediately pop up when you insert the disk. Double-click the CD drive to launch the installation.

    Disable Power Savers and Firewalls

    • 4

Select "Start" and "Control Panel" on your PC.

    • 5

      Click on "Power Options."

    • 6

Adjust each option -- "turn off hard disks," "system standby" and "system hibernates" -- so they don't take effect for at least an hour.

    • 7

Allow access for SkyCaddie software if any firewall protections pop up during installation or updates.

Connecting the SkyCaddie to Your Computer

    • 8

Align the screw on the PC USB cable with the hole on the back of the SkyCaddie.

    • 9

Tighten the screw into the back of the device. When done correctly, the cable should point down along the back of the SkyCaddie.

    • 10

Plug the USB end of the cable into your PC.

    • 11

      Navigate to the SkyGolf.com website.

    • 12

Click on the "Getting Started" tab at the top of the screen to register your device.

    Downloading Courses

    • 13

Click on Course Library or Direct Connect on the Sky Golf home page to search for courses to download. You can search by region, course name or state.

    • 14

Select the course you'd like to download to your SkyCaddie.

    • 15

Wait for the course to download, then safely disconnect your SkyCaddie from the computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Downloading courses can take up to an hour, so plan ahead.
