How to Check a Lacrosse Stick for Whip
Successful lacrosse depends heavily upon the quality and condition of a player's lacrosse stick and, specifically, the netting or "pocket" in the head of the lacrosse stick. When the shooting strings of a lacrosse stick head are too tight, the lacrosse ball is prone to "whip" downward into the ground on passes and shots, rendering the player ineffective.

How to Check a Lacrosse Stick for Whip
-
1
Hold the lacrosse stick horizontally, or parallel to the ground, by your side facing frontward.
-
2
Hold the lacrosse stick's shaft with your strong hand towards the head of the lacrosse stick, about four to six inches from the base of the head of the stick.
-
-
3
Place the lacrosse ball in the netting or pocket of the lacrosse stick's head.
-
4
Using the strong hand that is gripping the lacrosse shaft towards the head of the lacrosse stick, circle your hand back and downward, then, more quickly, forward and frontward so you flip the lacrosse ball out of the head of the stick and catch it back in the pocket.

If you feel the lacrosse ball whip toward a faster speed than the motion of the lacrosse stick, the stick's shooting strings are too tight. Loosen the shooting strings slightly in the net or pocket of the lacrosse head.

Tips & Warnings
Repeat the process until the lacrosse ball's motion stops whipping toward you more quickly than you are rotating the head of the lacrosse stick.
