How to Connect to a FTP Site Using Explorer

An FTP site is a type of Internet site used purely for file storage. A user can connect to an FTP site using their Web browser or a dedicated program, called a client, and download files from the site. If you want to use the Microsoft Internet Explorer Web browser to connect to an FTP site, you'll find that the process is not all that different than connecting to a regular HTTP site using the same browser.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Internet Explorer Web browser.

    • 2

Click your left mouse button one time inside the address bar at the top of Internet Explorer.

    • 3

      Type "ftp://" (without quotes).

    • 4

Type the Web address of the FTP site you are trying to access.

    • 5

Press "Enter" on your keyboard. The FTP site will now load in the Internet Explorer browser window.
