Telecommuting: Writers
Writing is one of the easiest jobs to do as a telecommuter. Telecommuters, unlike freelancers, work for one company. Telecommuters just work from home. However, many telecommuting and freelancing jobs are listed on the same sites. Because many telecommuters work on a contract basis, they may not receive benefits. Most telecommuting writing jobs require a specialty beyond writing that may include knowledge of the medical or financial fields or a technical specialty such as textbook writing. Many websites list telecommuting writing jobs, and many do not require a membership fee.

Look online for writing jobs. As of December 2010, Career Builder listed contract jobs for telecommuting writers in medical, financial, and insurance fields that paid $20 to $25 an hour. Other sites include Genuine Jobs and GT Thread which directs you to a collection of telecommuting writing jobs from all over the country that are listed on Craigslist.

Once you have a job, make a work schedule just like you would for an outside job. Some jobs require you to be available certain hours and others don't. But you have to regulate and ensure that you're neither taking too much "play time" nor overworking.
