How to Enamel Soft Boiled Egg Tops
A soft boiled egg is cooked in boiling water, then simmered. It is similar to a poached egg in that neither yolk nor whites are cooked solid. The whites can be fluffy but should remain soft. Soft boiled eggs are often served with toast, which is dipped into the egg. An enamel soft boiled egg refers to a traditionally Asian method of soft boiling an egg. Place the uncooked egg (still in its shell) in the enamel mug.

Pour boiling water over the egg.

Let the egg sit for four to six minutes, depending on the desired consistency.

Remove the egg and place it in cold water for one minute to cool shell and prevent additional cooking.

Serve it in in an egg cup with top removed, or pour the egg out onto a plate.

Tips & Warnings
Four minutes of cooking time will give you a very runny egg. Five minutes of cooking time results in a soft egg, and six minutes will give you a fluffy egg.
For a United Kingdom twist, serve strips of toast (called soldiers) alongside the soft boiled egg.
If you have a history of being susceptible to salmonella, it is best to steer clear of soft boiled eggs no matter how they are prepared.
