Toaster Oven Repair
Toaster ovens are useful kitchen tools for energy efficiency. In most models, you can bake an entire small meal without heating up the rest of the kitchen, as you would with a full-size oven. Toaster ovens are similar to other electrical heating devices in that they are controlled by a series of wires and switches that sometimes malfunction. Fortunately, repairing your toaster oven is usually as simple as finding the broken wire. Does this Spark an idea?

Oven Won't Work at All

1
Inspect the fuse or circuit breaker for the outlet at your electrical service panel. Replace the fuse if it is blown; reset the breaker if it has been tripped.
-
2
Unplug the toaster oven and remove the back screws so that you have access to the power cord wires.
-
-
3
Set your multimeter to "RX1" and clip the jumper wire across the toaster oven's power cord wires. A multimeter is a device for testing the continuity of wires and can test both volts and ohms. The RX1 setting on a multimeter sends a current through one end of the wire to the other.
-
4
Lightly touch the probes of the multimeter to the prongs of the power cord. If the cord is working, the meter will read zero ohms. If it reads anything else, then you need to replace the power cord.

-
6
Disconnect one of the wires from the switch and clip the jumper wire across this wire.
-
7
Set the multimeter to "RX1" and turn on the switch. If it reads zero ohms, then the switch is working. If it reads anything else, it means the switch is broken. Switches can be purchased from appliance parts stores and easily replaced.
