How to Remove a Security Sensor

A home security system consists of a number of modules that are designed to sound an alarm or otherwise inform a household when an intrusion takes place. A security sensor that is attached to a window can be removed if it is defective, allowing for a replacement sensor to be put in its place. The procedure is straightforward and performed in a similar manner regardless of whether the security sensor works through a wired or wireless connection system. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Deactivate the connection between the security sensor and the home security system -- this may entail shutting off the home security system temporarily or disconnecting the connection or input for the security sensor on the system's control panel.

    • 2

Open the window where the security sensor has been mounted. Unscrew the sensor module from the bottom edge of the window with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

    • 3

Unscrew the sensor module from the top of the windowsill with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

    • 4

Unscrew the two screws on the module with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver and remove the two wires wrapped around them with your fingers if a wired security system is in use; otherwise, unplug the transmitter connected to the module from the wall socket that is providing it with power.
