How to Clear a Salvage Title in Texas
When a vehicle receives damage that deems it unsafe for use on the highway and the cost of repair exceeds the value of the vehicle, Texas issues a salvaged title. While the vehicle may not be operated on the highway with a salvage title, you have the option to repair the damage and clear the salvage title. In this instance, Texas issued a rebuilt title, which allows you to operate your vehicle on state roads and highways.

1
Repair the damage that resulted in a salvage title. The state of Texas requires you to complete any damage that makes the vehicle unsafe for highway use. This includes broken windshields and damage to the body or engine.

2
Locate an inspection station by using the Texas Department of Public Safety's online site. Schedule an appointment with a vehicle inspection station in Texas.

3
Complete the Rebuilt Vehicle Statement required by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Include your name, the inspections station's information and an explanation of the repairs with a list of the parts used. Sign the owner's statement and have the rebuilder sign rebuilder's statement.
-
4
Obtain a certificate of repair from the inspection station. This provides the DMV with proof the inspector states your vehicle is highway safe.

5
Carry your salvage title, vehicle statement and repair certificate to the local county tax office in your area. Provide the clerk with the documents and tell her you want to clear the salvaged title and obtain a rebuilt title.

6
Pay the fee required by the Texas DMW for a rebuilt title, which is generally between $20 and $35, based on your county fees, as of 2010.
