How to Repair the Bleeder for Rear Brakes on a Harley

The rear brake bleeder on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle threads into the top of the brake caliper. When you turn the bleeder counterclockwise it allows you to expel air out of the brake caliper. If the brake bleeder becomes clogged, you must remove it and repair it by removing the clog.

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen the brake bleeder by turning it counterclockwise with a wrench. With the bleeder loosened, remove it from the caliper by turning it counterclockwise with your fingers.

    • 2

Locate the hole in the side of the threaded bleeder stem. The hole is relatively small. Blow compressed air into the hole to blow out any debris trapped in the hole.

    • 3

Thread the bleeder back into the brake caliper all of the way with your fingers. Back the bleeder out two turns.

    • 4

Press on the rear brake pedal. With the pedal compressed, close the valve and tighten it with the wrench to prevent air from getting into the caliper. Let off the brake pedal. If brake fluid came out of the bleeder valve when you pressed on the bake, you repaired the valve. If brake fluid did not come out of the valve, the valve is defective. Remove it and replace it with a new one.
