File transfer protocol (FTP) is used to transfer files between computers across an intranet or the Internet. You can build and manage your own FTP site to distribute files. You can put your files on your FTP server and users can download these files via FTP client software.

Instructions

    • 1

Open IIS Manager. Click "Start," "Administrative Tools" and then "Internet Information Services Manager." Click and expand the local computer. Expand "FTP Sites." Right-click the "Default FTP site" and click "Properties".

    • 2

Click the "Security Accounts" tab and select the "Allow Anonymous Connections" check box. This process will allow anonymous connections to the FTP site. However, you can also choose to forbid anonymous connections by unchecking the "Allow Anonymous Connections" check box.

    • 3

Right-click the "FTP" site again, select "permissions" and then "OK." Click the "Add" button under "Security" to add users and grant operator privileges to users for this FTP site. Click the newly added user and, under "Permissions for the new user," check the appropriate check box to grant read, write or modify rights to the user.

    • 4

Click the "Home Directory" tab in "Properties" dialog. Select the "Read" and "Log visits" check boxes and then uptick the "Write" check box. This will allow users to read files from and not write to the FTP site.
