How to Send Care Packages to an Overseas Military Base
Support American military troops by sending a care package overseas. Whether you have a friend or family member who's currently serving in the military and is stationed in another country, or you simply want to show your support regardless of who your care package is delivered to, you can send a collection of goodies to a soldier. Military troops love the morale boost that comes along with receiving thoughtful care packages from home. Direct your care package to a specific person, or donate to an organization that will randomly select a soldier overseas.

1
Visit the USO online to sponsor a care package. The USO has a program called Operation USO Care Package that sends required and requested items to men and woman overseas. Donating $25 to the program will send a care package valued at $75 to a military member. You can easily make this donation online by filling out a quick form.

Build your own care package, including items that military troops need, want and can easily use. Items that won't go to waste and are often needed include deodorant, long-distance telephone calling cards, toothpaste, canned foods and pillows. Items that will be appreciated include video games and DVDs, disposable cameras, newspapers and magazines, chewing gum and playing cards.

Mail your care package, ensuring that you have your soldier's address written clearly and accurately. Also, you'll need to make sure the contents in the box are protected and won't shift or break during transit. Seal the box with packing tape when you're finished.

Tips & Warnings
Additional ideas for your care package include foods that will travel well, such as jelly beans, beef jerky, sunflower seeds and nuts, coffee and bottled juice. Poker games, dice, CDs and dominoes will help keep your man or woman in uniform busy during down time. Hand warmers, socks, razors and vitamins will ensure that they never run out of essentials.
While some items may sound like a great idea to send overseas, there may be reasons why it's not such a great idea to ship them. For example, you may want to send home-baked goods to your soldier, but you'll need to choose a type of goodie that has a long shelf life, like shortbread cookies. Foods that melt, like chocolate, aren't a good choice. Liquor and pornographic materials are also not allowed to be sent overseas.
