How to Create a Screensaver for MS-DOS

The easiest way to make a screen saver for Windows is to set it to "Slide Show" and have it display a sequence of photos from your personal collection. If you wish to go beyond this, you'll have to draw and animate your screen saver using Flash. If you've never worked with Flash before, you'll find there is a bit of a learning curve to this, but once you're comfortable with the process you'll be able to design and install screen savers of your own creation, for yourself or for clients.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Click the desktop icon for the Flash editor to launch it. Alternatively, click "Start," select "All Programs" and choose your Flash editor from the programs list.

    • 2

Click the "Line," "Oval," "Rectangle," "Pencil," "Brush" or "Eraser" tool and begin drawing images you wish to include in your screen saver. You can group different elements of your drawing together by selecting "Modify," and choosing "Group."

    • 3

Animate your screen saver by using layers and keyframes in your Flash editor. Basically, you only have to draw images for "keyframes," which serve as checkpoints within an animation, and the Flash editor automatically "tweens," or fills in the in-between frames. You can also manually tween your screen saver animation if you wish.
