How to Change the Information on a Garmin eTrex

The Garmin eTrex, with built-in topographic maps and routing tools, can be a valuable device for hikers. However, misplacing the GPS can leave you out a few hundred dollars. That is why it is important to change the eTrex's owner's information just in case it lands in the hands of a good Samaritan.

Things You'll Need

• eTrex USB cable

Instructions

1. Update your eTrex to software version 2.5 or the latest software, if necessary, by plugging it into your computer using the eTrex's USB cord and visiting Garmin's download page (See Resources).

2. Go to the main menu after you finish updating the software.

3. Open "Options."

4. Select "Owner Information."

5. Change the ownership information as desired.

6. Choose "OK" to save the edits.

Tips & Warnings

• The eTrex software version 2.5 adds the owner information feature to the GPS, which was previously unavailable.

• If you are unsure which version your eTrex is running, start up the device and view the version as the GPS boots up.
