Engaging the "Ambience" setting in your 2004 Mountaineer will provide the music with an open and spacious feel.

Some of Mercury's 2004 Mountaineer sport utility vehicles (SUVs) include high-end sound systems. Mercury calls them audiophile, satellite compatible, AM/FM stereo in-dash radios. The audiophile units are designed to play commercially pressed 4.75-inch CD's, and you can fit them with optional satellite radio. Premium sound features include a digital signal processing (DSP) ambiance setting that increases clarity. Other premium sound settings include occupancy settings that optimize sound for the number of seats used.

Instructions

Press the button labeled "DSP" to access the "Ambience" premium sound setting. Press "Sel" to engage or disengage, then turn the volume control to increase or decrease "Ambience." Engaging "Ambience" will provide an open and spacious feel to the music and, according to Ford, will give you a feeling of "being there."

Press "DSP" again and then press the "Sel" button to scroll through occupancy settings. Select "All Seats" to project sound throughout the entire SUV, "Driver's Seat" for an audio experience aimed at the driver and "Rear Seats" for an experience aimed at the rear passengers.

Press "Menu" repeatedly to display "Compression," then press "Sel" to enable it. "Compression" brings quiet and loud CD music passages together for an even listening level. Press the "Bass" and "Treble" buttons followed by "Sel" to make changes to the high and low frequencies. Press "Bal" and "Fade" followed by "Sel" to change levels between the left, right, back and front of the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer.
