How to Make Green Glow Water

How to Make Green Glow Water thumbnail
You can use an ordinary yellow highlighter to make green glowing water.

Making green glow water for a craft, Halloween display, haunted house or just for fun is simple and easy. With just a few items that you may already have in your home, you can create this green glowing water. This is also a good crafts project for kids as long as they are supervised when using the knife or razor blade. Do not use highlighters that use opaque ink. Opaque ink will not glow under a UV light.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the bottom of the yellow highlighter. Cut off the bottom of the highlighter with a sharp knife. If the bottom is a plastic insert, use a razor blade to pry it out.

    • 2

Put on your gloves. Remove the ink from the inside of the highlighter. The ink will be in a long, spongy tube and should slip out after the bottom of the pen has been removed.

    • 3

Place your cup into the sink, directly under the faucet. At this time the faucet should be off. If you're going to be making a considerable amount of green glow water, then use a bowl instead of a cup.

    • 4

Place the ink sponge directly over the cup and turn on the faucet so that the water is just trickling over the sponge. The water will wash the ink from the sponge and directly into the cup. Squeeze the sponge as the trickle of water runs over it. This will help remove the ink.

    • 5

Open the ink sponge with your razor blade or knife. Hold the sponge under the trickle of water and remove any remaining ink by squeezing the sponge. The contents of your cup should resemble dirty, green water. Turn off the water and take the cup away from the sink.

    • 6

Turn on the UV light and hold it near the cup of water. You will notice that the contents of the cup go from a dirty green to a glowing green color.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use the UV light near the sink because it's an electrical appliance.
