How to Track a Package Without the Receipt

Included on the receipt you receive after you arrange for a package to be shipped is tracking number of your package. Without your receipt (or tracking number) you run the risk of not being able to track your package. If the package gets lost and there is no way to track it, you may not be refunded the value of your package or the postage you paid to have it sent. Thankfully, most shipping companies have a way to track your package if you paid for shipping with a credit or debit card and lost the receipt.

Visit the website of the company that shipped your package. Click on the "Contact Us" or "Customer Service" link on the home page of the site. This is usually at the top or bottom of the screen.

Have the shipping information of your package available to recite to a customer service representative. You need to know the address you shipped the package to and have the credit or debit card you used to ship the package.

Use the 800 number on the customer service page to contact a customer service representative. Follow the prompts in the menu and click the button that corresponds to the "Track a Package" option. If you are asked for a tracking number, simply say into the phone "agent" or "customer service" or "operator." The automated system will direct you to a person.

Explain that you need to track a package but don't have the tracking number. The customer service rep will ask you a series of questions to find the package and give you information on its whereabouts.
