The Infiniti G35 is part of the Infiniti G series. Infiniti is a luxury car brand made by Nissan. The G35 was Motor Trend's car of the year for 2003 and has continued to have high ratings year after year. When your G35 is not starting properly, there could be several reasons. In many cases, you can determine what the cause is without paying for a professional diagnosis.

Step 1

Open the hood to the G35 and check the battery for corroded or loose connections. Corrosion should be cleaned off and connections tightened. Place key in ignition and turn to the "ON" position. If the dashboard lights do not come on, the battery in your G35 is dead or drained. Replace or recharge the battery as needed.

Step 2

Remove the spark plugs from the G35. Place the spark plug wire on a metal surface. If you do not see a spark, the engine is not being ignited properly and will need to be replaced.

Step 3

Turn key to start car. If you do not hear any sounds, the ignition switch is your culprit. A clicking noise indicates that the starter is faulty.

Step 4

Note the dashboard indicators. If the check engine light is on and your G35 is a 2003 model, a problem with your engine cooling system could be causing the car not to start. A recall has been issued by Infiniti for a failing of a circuit board in the G35. If this condition exists in your car, the service engine light will soon come on. Cars with faulty circuit boards may not be able to start and could loose power while running and cause an accident. Check with your local Infiniti dealer for repair.

Step 5

Turn the key on and off for three seconds and then back to "on." Listen carefully to the engine. You should hear a two-second-long knocking sound. If you do not, the issue is within your fuel pump and its components. If your G35 is a 2004 model, your fuel hose may be cracked, which can cause a fuel leak or even a fire. A recall has been issued for this problem.

If your car does not have fuel, it probably won't start. If the hose is cracked, the fuel could also have trouble being sent through the car. Contact a Nissan or Infiniti dealer to get information on getting your fuel hose replaced.
