A steering wheel can get sticky if you've been driving with dirty hands or if you've spilled some food such as jam or juice on the steering wheel. A vinyl steering wheel is easy to clean using a few basic materials that won't damage the vinyl on the wheel. Some are materials that you may already have on hand, making it a low-cost project that won't break the bank.

Step 1

Dampen a sponge with water and wring out any excess liquid. Dab the sponge over the sticky area of the vinyl to pick up any surface dust or debris, wiping away any dirt that is easily removed with little pressure.

Step 2

Mix equal parts baking soda and water in an empty spray bottle. Shake the bottle well to make sure the ingredients are completely incorporated.

Step 3

Spray the liquid over the vinyl steering wheel so that the sticky part is completely covered. Let it sit for about 10 minutes so the mixture begins to break up the sticky mess.

Step 4

Wipe the vinyl steering wheel with a clean rag, removing both the sticky mess and the baking soda mixture. Keep wiping until the wheel is fully dry.
