      Test the calcium level in the pool using a pool chemistry test kit. Follow the instructions on the kit. It is essential to know the current level of calcium in the water in order to properly treat it. The acceptable range is between 250 to 350 parts per million.

      Locate the chart on the calcium chloride container for how much chemical to add based on the size of the pool and the reading you got from the test kit. You must know the approximate size of your pool in gallons to properly treat the pool with chemicals.

      Fill a bucket with the amount of calcium chloride needed to bring the pool into an acceptable range.

      Spread one third of the chemical into the pool using a plastic cup. Walk around the pool and throw the chemical toward the center of the pool. This is called broadcasting the chemical. Allow the chemical to filter through the system for 2 to 3 hours.
