Instructions

    • 1

Purchase thick metal sheeting. This usually needs to be about 4 feet in length and able to withstand heavy use. This is the sheet that will be used as the primary plow in front of the ATV.

    • 2

Bend the steel. Depending on whether you want the snow to be thrown to one side, or to both sides, you will need to bend the steel into a curve to match your criteria. To bend the metal, you will need a metal bending fabrication tool.

    • 3

Build a mounting system that can attach to your ATV. The mounting system can be built to hook or hang onto the front metal bars of the ATV or you can use a chain to temporarily attach the mounting system.

    • 4

Once this metal mounting system is built, weld the mounting system to the curved metal plow. After the mounting system and metal plow are welded together, mount the entire plow to the ATV for snow plowing.

    • 5

Coat the plow with rust-proof paint. This will help keep the plow rust free and in good working condition for years to come.

Tips & Warnings

  • To avoid damage to asphalt, it is recommended that a rubber edge be connected to the bottom of the metal plow.

  • When choosing the size of the metal plow, blade width is important for durability. Common blade widths are 48, 54, 60, 66, 72 or 78 inches. Typically, ATV blades are 14½ inches high.

  • Take precautions when welding. Proper equipment should always be worn during welding.
