Researching how to find the address of a property and other useful information -- such as who owns the property -- is fairly simple and can be done free using different websites. Various other tools are also available for free for anyone with Internet access intent on locating buildings, properties, and other places on maps.

Find Property Information Through the Assessor's Office

1. Visit the official website of the city or county the property is located in. You can locate these websites by visiting your official state website (see References).

2. Go to the Assessor's Office on your county website and find the property locator. Enter the property's address and click "Search" to view the county website's database of properties and their addresses.

3. Allow the county website to load its directory of addresses. Once the results appear, you will be able to view the property details as well as the information on the property address and sale price. Other information may be available, depending on the company's website you are using and if the information is from the state or county directly. The state and county websites will generally provide telephone numbers for further contact regarding specific properties and your interests. If you can't find the information online, call or visit your local city hall to find a property by address.

Search for Properties Easily Online

1. Open an Internet browser and visit a trusted realty-searching company's website. Using company websites of businesses and real estate companies you trust will be the quickest way to locating properties and their addresses. Use your local phone book or check your newspaper's local advertisements to find information and locate more details about companies you wish to check into and their website URL.

2. Locate the "Search" bar or "Find Property" link on the search website that you are using to find the property. These links will vary depending on the website. If you are looking for directions and a specific location, you can use free map websites. Alternatively, if you're looking for available property and rentals, using free real-estate websites may help best by delivering a wide array of results.

3. Enter the property's address within the search bar once you have clicked to enter the official search page. Some websites may require or offer more space for additional questions and specifics for the search, such as the property owner's name, age and other personal data. Not all websites require this information, but the more information provided to the website, the better the database search results will be.

4. Click "Search" to begin scanning and digging through the website's directory of addresses and properties. Do not complete other tasks while this is finishing to avoid any possible conflicts or errors.

5. Scroll through the results. Click on the property. Depending on the type of locating and searching website you are using, you will be provided information regarding the property location and, sometimes, other ownership information.
