LiPo batteries offer a long-lasting alternative to other power sources.

Lithium-ion polymer batteries, or LiPo batteries, are rechargeable cells that offer a long-lasting and lightweight alternative to batteries that aren't rechargeable. However, LiPo batteries do run out of power, so they need chargers. Compare any LiPo chargers before you buy, to get the best product for your budget.

      Compare any possible chargers by first reading the battery charge output; output is always measured in amps. Charge your LiPo battery faster by investing in a device that has a high-amp charge capability; the more amps you can put into the battery, the faster the LiPo cell will charge. Compare different chargers by reading the product description and noting the amp output.

      Ensure that your LiPo charger senses your battery. This basically means that the charger will work/charge up to a certain point (the LiPo cell's peak). If it charges the cell beyond that peak, your battery is likely to explode. Avoid this by comparing the chargers' sensing capability and checking whether the product actually is capable of sensing the cell. Stay away from non-sensing devices.

      Check how many LiPo cells can be connected and charged at once. Check product descriptions against your needs, and invest in a multi-cell charger only if you need to; they cost more than single-cell chargers.

      Invest in a LiPo charger that has an easy-to-read LCD display or screen. A screen shows not only the status of the LiPo charger and battery, and some models display warn if the charger is unstable or faulty. Preview the screen by asking a shop assistant to give you a demo of the product, if buying in-store.

  • Check the price, and avoid purchasing any LiPo charger for less than $20. These chargers have a high fire risk, and higher-priced devices are manufactured with added safety features. Avoid cheap and cut-corner versions. If you think that a charger seems unsafe or badly made, it probably is.
