Fairy Headband

1
Choose the flowers for your headband. Smaller flowers such as rosebuds, daisies and baby's breath work best. Mix and match colors and flowers, throwing in a few leaf choices as well. Light leaves work well for bright flowers; dark leaves complement pastels.
-
2
Separate your flowers into bunches. The bunches should be small and no larger than a golf ball. Wrap each bunch with floral tape at the base of the flower heads.

3
Place the flower heads of one bunch against the floral tape of a second bunch. Wrap floral tape around the stems of both bunches. Continue adding bunches this way, creating a circle. The bunches should cover the stems all the way around.

4
Snip several 20-inch lengths of ribbon. Fold the ribbons in half and place the folds against the inside of the headband. Bring the ends of the ribbons up around the headband and pass them through the fold, tugging to snug the ribbons against the headband. Ribbons look best clustered and fluttering along the back of the band.

5
Paint a dowel rod with acrylic paint. You may paint stripes, hatch marks, polka dots, stars, flowers or any other pattern that strikes your fancy. If your fairy is a forest fairy, try acorns and leaves. If your fairy is a nighttime fairy, stick with moons, stars and owl feathers.
-
6
Drill a 1/8-inch wide hole through the dowel about ½ inch from the top. This gives you a way to attach your ribbons later.
-
7
Cut 15 to 20 lengths of ribbon four times longer than you want the finished ribbons to be. If you want 4-inch ribbon curls for your wand, cut your ribbons about 16 inches long. Mix and match colors and patterns, making sure they complement the headband or your costume.
-
8
Turn the curling iron on very low and wrap each ribbon around the iron for about 15 seconds. Gently remove the ribbons from the iron and let them cool for 10 minutes. Gather the ribbons together at the center and tie them together with a 10-inch length of ribbon.
-
9
Nip a piece of wire about 8 inches long. Slip it through the hole in the top of your dowel. Slide both ends of wire through the underside of the center ribbon on your ribbon bundle. Pass the ends alternately through the hole and the center ribbon, snugging the ribbon bundle to the dowel. Twist the ends of the wire together to finish.
