Nose Screw Instructions

Nose Screw Instructions thumbnail
A nose screw attaches securely to the inside of your nostril.

A nose screw is a type of body jewelry stud that fits inside a nose piercing. The ornament portion, called the stud, rests upon a C-shaped screw that threads through a nostril piercing. The C-shape keeps the stud from moving around or falling out of a nose piercing, but it can also make insertion and removal a bit more difficult if you aren't used to it. Once you understand how a nostril screw works, you can quickly take one out and replace it in a matter of minutes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Insert a Nose Screw

    • 1

Wash your face and hands with warm water and an antibacterial soap to prevent infections. Work the soap around your nostril piercing to lubricate it and disinfect it.

    • 2

Swab a cotton ball soaked in antiseptic around your nose piercing, both inside and out.

    • 3

Disinfect the nostril screw with an antiseptic solution. Never insert a piece of body jewelry unless it is very clean.

    • 4

Push one finger on the inside of your nostril to flatten the piercing hole on the outside. With the other hand, push the tip of the nostril screw into the hole until you feel the metal shaft poking your finger on the inside.

    • 5

Remove your finger from the inside of your nose. Start twisting the nose screw in a clockwise direction while gently pushing it through your nostril. Keep twisting the nose screw until all you can see is the stud portion on the outside.

    Remove a Nose Screw

    • 6

Wash your face and hands with warm water and antibacterial soap to soften the skin around your nose piercing. Removing a nose ring is easiest when the cartilage is more pliable.

    • 7

Hook one of your nails on the top of the nose stud, and gently pull on the nose screw in a downward motion.

    • 8

Grasp the nose stud with two fingers and start twisting it in a counter-clockwise direction to "unscrew" it from your nose. Keep twisting it until the nose screw comes all the way out of your nose.

    • 9

Wash your nose and hands again with antibacterial soap.

    • 10

Disinfect the nose screw with antiseptic solution, dry it off and store it away.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never yank on a nose screw; you might rip your cartilage and cause an infection to develop.
