How to Reinstall IE6 Using Regedit

Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) is a version of Microsoft's Web browser that was released with Windows XP. IE6 has since been replaced by later versions of the browser, but older editions of Windows still use it. If you need to reinstall IE6, you can do so using the Windows "regedit" utility to remove the setting that will warn you the application is already installed.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start" and "Run."

    • 2

      Type "regedit" and press "Enter."

    • 3

Browse the directory structure by clicking the "+" symbol next to "HKEY_LOCALMACHINE," and then click "SOFTWARE," "Microsoft," "Active Setup," "Installed Component" and "{89820200-ECCD-11ff-8B25-00AA00534383}."

    • 4

Double-click the "Data" setting, change its value to "0" and then click "OK."

    • 5

Download IE6, and save it to your desktop (see Resources).

    • 6

Double-click the setup file to reinstall Internet Explorer on your system.
