Swags are a lovely way to decorate your home for Christmas. They add a cheerful touch to the home. One benefit to a homemade swag is that you can customize it exactly how you want it. Choose from a myriad of different styles and patterns. Create a traditional swag that is made of evergreen, or alternative ones made of pine cones and flowers. Add color with holiday items such as tinsel and glitter. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Evergreen tree branches
  • Fir tree leaves
  • Eucalyptus leaves
  • Large rubber band
  • Floral wire
  • Dried flowers
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Ribbon
  • Pine cones (optional)
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Sequins (optional)
  • Tinsel (optional)

Instructions

      Cut several different lengths of evergreen branches. Also cut multiple lengths of branches of fir leaves and eucalyptus leaves. Use a large rubber band to put the stems together.

      Place the eucalyptus and fir leaves on a hard and flat surface. Place one facing the left and the other facing the right direction. The stems should overlap each other. Tie them together using floral wire. Trim the ends of the floral wire off. Tuck the ends into the stems.

      Apply dried flowers to the swag using a hot glue gun. Put small bits of glue on the back of the flowers, and press the flowers firmly onto the leaves. Use your creativity to place the flowers where you like. Some examples of flowers to use include lavender, marigold and rose buds.

      Add pine cones, glitter, tinsel or sequins to the homemade swag. It's all up to you. Use the hot glue gun to add them to the swag. Tie a large red bow on the front of the swag. Use floral wire to keep it in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not allow children to use the hot glue gun.
