How to Share Satellite Service

How to Share Satellite Service thumbnail
You can share satellite service with a router and modem within a home, but sharing with neighbors is illegal.

Computer users who desire to share their satellite Internet connection within the home have the option to use more than one laptop or desktop with their service. This enables different members of a household to perform various tasks or go online at the same time, rather than wait for the only connection in the home to free up. If you own ethernet cables and a router, you can share satellite service between rooms in a home.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut down any laptops, desktops and the modem that you plan to use to share satellite service.

    • 2

Insert your ethernet cord into the "Output" slot on your modem. Then insert the opposite end into the "Input" slot of your router.

    • 3

Place additional ethernet cords on your laptops or desktops on the other slots that exist on the rear part of the router, if you own more than one computer.

    • 4

Turn on your modem and insert your router into an electrical outlet.

    • 5

Log on to your laptops or desktops. This enables your system to identify the network on which it is to operate and allows you to go online from any computer in the house.
