How to Calculate the Cost of a Chain Link Fence
Chain link fence is a cost-effective choice to protect your yard. It is cheaper than natural wood fences and easier to care for. It can safely keep pets and kids in the yard and keep trespassers out. While not the most attractive option out there, chain link may be for you if cost is an issue. Prices vary from area to area and are based on market prices for metal, so check with a local contractor. Most will quote a price per linear foot which includes installation. Higher fencing adds a nominal cost to the price per foot, and gates are extra. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Contact a local contractor or home improvement center to get prices for chain link fence per linear foot, for the height you want. For example, a 4-foot high fence could cost $8 per linear foot with $8.50 and $9 prices for 5- and 6-foot fences respectively.
-
2
Make a linear measure of your yard, or the perimeter of the area you want to enclose. Make the measurements in feet.
-
-
3
Multiply the price per foot for the fence you want by the linear measure. For example, if your perimeter is 230 feet and you want a 5-foot fence that is $8.50 per foot, the cost would be $1,955.
-
4
Add the price of an access gate, if desired. If you want a six-foot wide gate on your 5-foot high fence and it runs $200, for example, your total cost is $2,155.
