How to Disable Onstar in a 2005 Chevy Truck

Some Chevrolet trucks manufactured in 2005 have an OnStar system built into the vehicle. OnStar offers many services, designed for both the safety and convenience of the driver. Services include automatic crash detection, turn-by-turn navigation and the ability to remotely unlock your truck, should your keys become locked inside. If you do not wish to utilize the OnStar service, you can easily disable the hardware ensuring that a signal is not sent or received to or from OnStar.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the truck off, and remove the key from the ignition.

    • 2

Locate the OnStar box, located under the driver's or passenger's front seat, depending on the model of your 2005 Chevrolet truck. The OnStar module is a silver, rectangular box with three black cables attached to it.

    • 3

Pull each of the three cables to remove the cables and to disable OnStar in your Chevrolet truck. With these cables removed, the module will not receive power, nor will it be able to send or receive a signal.
