Find your proof of mailing or delivery confirmation receipt for mail sent through the Postal Service with purchased services such as certified mail delivery, confirmation, signature confirmation or registered mail tracking numbers. Locate the tracking number.
-
2
Type www.usps.com into your Internet browser's web address bar to access the official United States Postal Service (USPS) website.
-
-
3
Locate the "Track and confirm" option on the USPS website. Type the tracking number found on your receipt in Step 1 into the blank "track and confirm" field on the USPS site. Click Go to recover the status of your sent mail.
-
4
Go to a post office or call the USPS at 800-ASK-USPS for inquiries regarding lost sent mail if you are unable to track your recent sent mail.
-
5
Ask a postal worker at the post office you sent the mail from if there are undeliverable packages in holding. This can occur if a return address is not readable or if the intended recipient moved. If so, describe your package to the postal worker.
-
6
Fill out a PS 1510 form to report lost mail. Give it to a postal worker at your post office. Follow-up weekly by phone or in person to recover your recent sent mail.
