How to Add Lines on a Malibu Outdoor Lighting Transformer
Your garden or yard landscaping isn't laid out in a straight line; neither should your Malibu low-voltage landscape lighting design be limited to the same straight lines. You can add lines to your Malibu outdoor lighting transformer two different ways. The transformer steps your current house voltage down from 120-volts to 12-volts and adding lines to the transformer is a safe, cheaper alternative than adding additional transformers. Do not exceed the transformer's wattage load and use 12-gauge low-voltage cable when adding additional lines. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Utility knife
- Wire cutter/stripper
- Phillips or slotted screwdriver
- Malibu lighting low-voltage cable connector

Directly to the Transformer

Split the two wires of the low-voltage cable line. Cut through 3-inches of membrane holding the two low-voltage wires together with a utility knife.

Remove 5/8-inch of insulation from each low voltage wire with a wire cutter/stripper. Repeat this step for the second low-voltage cable line you want to add to your Malibu transformer.

Wrap one low-voltage cable around the terminal "A" screw on the back of the Malibu transformer and tighten the screw. Wrap the remaining low-voltage cable around the terminal "B" screw on the transformer and tighten the screw. Repeat this step to install the additional low-voltage cable to your transformer.

Insert the existing low-voltage cable line into the connector anywhere you choose along the line. Place the cable vertically into one of the two cable channels located on the bottom half of the Malibu lighting low-voltage cable connector.

Lay the additional low-voltage cable into the remaining channel. Place the top half of the connector over the two low-voltage cable lines and onto the threaded rod attached to the bottom half of the connector.

Twist the top half of the low voltage cable connector clockwise to clamp it to the bottom half. Sharp copper prongs pierce each line and establish the electrical connection from the existing line to the additional line.
