1
Dip the top corner of your flat brush into the burgundy paint slowly, then dip the bottom corner of your flat brush into the buttercup yellow paint. Paint a few strokes on the palette or a spare sheet of paper to make sure paint gets into the brush bristles and isn't too thick.
-
2
Start your rose by painting a small wide arch in one quick stroke. Your burgundy paint should be the top layer of the arch with your yellow paint the bottom layer. This is your first petal.

3
Paint an upside down J coming out of the left side of the first arch you made with the tail slightly angled to come in front of the arch. Your result should be an arch with a J stroke of paint coming out of it. Again you want the side of the brush with the burgundy to always be facing the outside. Replenish the paint on your brush as needed.
-
4
Paint a backwards S with the start of it coming out of the other side of your first arch and waving and curling across the front of your first arch and the end of the backwards J you painted. You should now have a shape similar to a heart, but instead of your heart bending in at the top, your first arch is there. Again burgundy paint should be on the outside with yellow on the inside.
-
5
Starting on the left side of your heart shape make a wider arch starting at the curve of the upside down J you painted, extending out about 1/2 an inch and curving around the right side of your heart shape stopping at the tip of your heart shape. Repeat this step with a similar arch shape on the other side of your heart.
-
6
Paint another wider arch that starts in the middle of one of the side arches you painted and connects to the other side arch. These arches are the petals of the rose. If you would like your rose to be fuller, continue painting wider and wider arches extending outward or if you like stop here and you can paint leaves or a stem attached to the rose as you'd like.

Tips & Warnings
Practice painting these roses and add your own variations as you like. These roses are not meant to all look exactly same. With each stroke you might get a new result, so try different brushes and colors for some fun differences.
