How to Donate Cars in the Phoenix Area

Donating cars has become a popular way to donate to charity. Any car is generally accepted, even cars that are no longer running. Donated cars are auctioned off, with the cash proceeds going to the designated charity. So, of course, cars that are well-maintained and in good condition will result in a larger "donation" to your chosen charity. You must have your car's title if you wish to donate. If you have lost your title, contact the Arizona Department of Transportation. You are eligible for a tax deduction when donating your car to charity.

Instructions

  1. Car Donation Agencies

    • 1

Go to the website of a charity car donation agency. There are a number of agencies that provide car donation services and will arrange for pick-up of your vehicle. In many cases, these agencies allow you to choose from a list of charities for the destination of the proceeds of your car's sale. Two of the more established agencies are Donate for Charity Inc. and Cars4Charities.

    • 2

Choose Arizona or Phoenix from the charity menu. Both Donate for Charity Inc. and Cars4Charities list charity options by state or city.

    • 3

Choose the charity to which you would like to donate your car. You can click on the links provided on the donation websites to learn more about each charity.

    • 4

Complete the on-line donation form. You must include your personal information, information about your car and the car's pick-up location. Once you fill in the application, you will be contacted by phone to finalize the pick-up arrangements. In most cases, your car will be picked up by a towing company within two to five business days.

    Donate Directly to a Charity

    • 5

Find a charity that accepts direct car donations. A number of charities in the Phoenix area accept direct donations of cars, including the local public television station, KAET, and Phoenix Habitat for Humanity.

    • 6

Contact the charity to discuss your donation. Some charities have restrictions on what kind of cars they will accept. The Phoenix PBS station, for example, requires that any donated car have an engine and be safe to tow. In general, though, any vehicle for which you have the title, running or not, will be accepted for donation.

Arrange for pick-up of your car. You can have the car picked up from your home or any location that is convenient for you. You are expected to have your car reasonably clean before pick-up.
