How to Use Murano Luggage Roof Rails

Place your suitcase flat on top of the Murano for the safest ride.

If you have a Nissan Murano with roof rails that run on either side of your vehicle, you can use them to bring extra luggage on your next trip. An added option for the roof rails are cross bars that run perpendicular to the side rails. If you have these, they'll help keep your luggage more secure, but they're not crucial to securing your luggage to the top of your vehicle. The cross bars can also be used to attach optional ski or bicycle racks to the top of the vehicle.

Instructions

    • 1

Pack your luggage with the heaviest items on the bottom of the bag. If you have a suitcase, keep in mind that it will probably be sitting on its side and pack accordingly.

    • 2

Place your luggage on top of the Murano, as flat as possible.

    • 3

Unlock your cross rails and scoot them in to fit close to the luggage. If you don't have cross rails, skip this step.

    • 4

Wrap a bungee cargo net over the top of the luggage and secure the hooks to the side rails. If you have the cross bar in the front and back of the rack, attach hooks to those rails as well. Secure your cargo net hooks evenly over all the rails you have available. While a bungee cargo net is a more ideal choice, you can also use straight bungee cords for this job, pulling them across the luggage from one rail to another.

Check the security of your luggage by driving a short distance and braking quickly. If you hear or see your luggage moving already, redo the job and make the bungee cords tighter. You can do this by moving the cross bars farther away from the luggage, or by wrapping the bungee net hooks around the rails several times.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to check your luggage rack each time you make a stop, to ensure everything is still secured safely.
