How to Get a Teaching Certificate in Alaska When I Have One Already in Pennsylvania
Many certified teachers are hesitant to venture away from their current state for fear that transferring the certification will prove difficult. While there are some hoops to jump through should you want to transfer your certification, doing so need not prevent you from relocating. If you received your teacher training in the "Keystone State" but would rather surround yourself with the natural beauties of Alaska, you can effectively transfer your certificate with relative ease.

1
Obtain transcripts from your teacher education program. These transcripts should include the courses that you took during your training, your grade in each course and your overall grade point average. The Alaska Department of Education will review these records to ensure that your training is in alignment with its training requirements. If it determines that you need additional training, it may require you to take a course or two that you are currently lacking.

2
Print the state recommendation form and have it completed by a representative from the state in which you completed your teacher education program. This form asks for information regarding the accreditations held by the program that you completed, allowing the Alaska Department of Education to ensure that you received your training at a reputable institution.

Submit your Pennsylvania teaching certificate, your transcripts and your state recommendation form along with your application for an Alaska teaching certificate. You must submit an original copy of your Pennsylvania teaching certificate, as no photocopies will be accepted. If you would like this credential returned to you, you can include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your application.
