How to Apply Glaze to Rough-Textured Walls

How to Apply Glaze to Rough-Textured Walls thumbnail
Glazing a textured wall requires a special roller and glazing technique.

Applying glaze to a normal wall is just like painting the wall. However, applying glaze to a textured wall requires different tools, as the glaze will not reach the deeper parts of the textured wall. A nap roller was designed specifically for painting and glazing over textured surfaces. Glazes are used to help build up layers on the wall and enhance the base paint. The more layers of color on the wall, the more intense the color and the more light that can be reflected. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pour the glaze into a roller paint pan. Roll a nap roller through the glaze until it is completely coated with glaze.

    • 2

Pour water into a bucket. Dampen a sponge with water and wet the area of the wall where the glaze will go just before rolling on the glaze. A damp wall makes the glaze flow easily on the wall.

    • 3

Roll the glaze-covered nap roller over the textured wall applying the glaze in all different directions. Paint the entire wall in this manner, moving the roller in all different directions.

    • 4

While the glaze is still wet, wipe away any excess glaze with a damp cotton rag.

Tips & Warnings

  • For very deeply textured walls, apply the glaze using a sponge.
