Disassemble a Remington Rifle Bolt

Remington has produced a variety of rifles and shotguns for many years. The most commonly noted Remington rifle is the bolt action model 700. In addition to the 700, a variety of bolt action rifles are also produced. As with all weapons, the Remington bolt needs to be removed and disassembled periodically for cleaning to keep the rifle in good working condition. Due to the array of Remington rifles on the market, this process will vary slightly, but the disassembly process can be applied to most Remington models.

Instructions

    • 1

Unload the weapon completely. Visually inspect the rifle to ensure that no ammunition is present.

    • 2

Pull the bolt to the rear, then push it back forward to cock the weapon.

    • 3

Insert the hex key into the back of the bolt and turn it counterclockwise. Pull the bolt out of the rifle.

    • 4

Pry up the bolt sear, using a flathead screwdriver. This is located under the bolt nut.

    • 5

Screw the bolt nut toward the bolt handle until it comes off of the bolt assembly. Pull out the firing pin and spring. On some models, the bolt nut will unscrew from the firing pin and spring. On model 700 and similar series, the bolt nut is attached to the firing pin and spring.

  • Ensure that you thoroughly scrub the strike plate and all areas of the bolt while cleaning. Dry the bolt thoroughly before replacing.
