Cut Bettie Bang Fringe

There are a few advantages to learning how to cut cut bangs at home. Cutting bangs at home cuts down on the expense of having to visit a salon every few weeks, or monthly as bangs get shaggy. It's also convenient for those with busy schedules or young kids to be able to cut their own bangs, rather than having to fit into a hairdresser's schedule. Instructions

    • 1

Gather the comb, smock, scissors and other supplies. Make sure the bathroom is brightly lit and put on the smock to catch hair as it's cut. Comb bangs straight down. Bangs should always be dry when they're cut because hair shrinks as it dries and may be shorter than anticipated.

    • 2

Use sharp haircutting scissors to cut bangs straight across. They will be shaped in the next step, but for now cut in a straight line from one side of the bangs to the next. Whatever length is desired is fine, but as a general rule, cut bangs to graze the eyebrows.

    • 3

Use fingers or the comb to trace an angle from the outside edges of bang to the middle to get an idea of how short to cut the edges of bangs. The idea is going to be for bangs to be shorter on the outside edges and longer in the middle. Starting at one outside edge, cut bangs at an angle, getting longer in the area of the nose. Repeat the process at the other edge of bangs, ensuring that the length of the sides of bangs is the same and that the bangs gently curve to get longer in the middle.

    • 4

Style Bettie bangs. Use a flat iron to gently curl bangs under. Spray with hairspray to keep bangs in this shape.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't rush the cutting process, it takes awhile for bangs to grow in, so take the time to do the job right.

  • If you're having trouble cutting Bettie bangs, go to a salon to have them cut and watch how the hairstylist cuts and styles them. It may be easier for someone to replicate cutting bangs at home once she's actually seen it done.

  • Make sure the haircutting scissors used are sharp. Bangs should be cut in a nice clean line and dull scissors might make the cutting uneven.
