Speed in the martial arts is an essential aspect of power. The faster you are - if your technique is solid - the more powerful your punches and kicks will be.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Martial Arts Videos
  1. Step 1

Develop speed gradually. Practice simple techniques and build speed through repetition as you master the basics. Move toward more complex techniques and repeat the process.

  2. Step 2

Relax your muscles until the moment of impact. Practice controlled, focused, powerful techniques with relaxed muscles and relaxed movements. The more relaxed your muscles are, the faster they move to the target.

  3. Step 3

Practice on a heavy bag and begin gradually, eventually moving toward combinations and complex techniques at full speed. Remember to cool down just as gradually and to stretch afterward.

  4. Step 4

Increase speed through repetition. As your skill increases, practice at higher speeds than normal to shorten reaction time.

Tips & Warnings
