How to Send Luggage Ahead
Imagine showing up at your vacation destination with all your travel clothing and accessories already at the hotel, your arms filled only with a carry-on bag and a magazine to keep you occupied on your trip. In recent years, it has become more commonplace for travelers to send their luggage ahead to their destination. With the rising cost of checking luggage at the airport and the limited amount of space allowed for carry on items, sending luggage ahead can save you money and the hassle of carrying your belongings through the airport.

1
Choose a shipping service. Choose a company that specializes in luggage shipping, like Luggage Ahead, Luggage Free or Luggage Forward; or consider more common messenger services such as UPS, FedEx, or the United States Post Office.
-
2
Pack your luggage. If shipping with USPS, UPS, or FedEx, you may pack your belongings as though you were shipping a package to a friend. If you use a specialty service, pack as though you were carrying your luggage with you on the airplane. The messenger service will package your luggage for shipping for you.

If you choose a specialty messenger company, call and arrange a time for them to pick up your luggage. Otherwise, bring your package to the shipping location at least one week before you travel and mail your luggage to the hotel or home where you'll be staying.

Call the hotel you will stay at and arrange for them to hold your luggage for you until your arrival. If you are staying with friends and family, warn them of the package's arrival.
