How to Loosen Up a Tight Holster

How to Loosen Up a Tight Holster thumbnail
Loosen up tight holsters much like breaking in shoes.

Holsters secure sidearms to the body, whether on the waist or shoulder. New holsters may be tight, making it difficult to remove the firearm. To loosen up a holster requires a breaking in of sorts. Place large, round objects in the holster and let them set for a period of time to stretch the leather or other materials, making it easier to remove the firearm.

Instructions

    • 1

Push a bottle, wide side down, into the holster barrel placement. Use a bottle only slightly larger in diameter than the holster.

    • 2

Let the bottle set in the holster for one or two days to stretch the material. Once or twice during that time, pull the bottle out and push it back in to give the holster more range of stretch.

    • 3

Remove the bottle and holster the weapon. Check that it secures and comes out easier. If it's still too tight, use a slightly larger bottle and go through the stretching process once more.
