If you want to plant vegetables, herbs or flowers but you don't have an abundance of space, you can make your own vertical planters. Vertical planters are easy to construct and maintain and you can use them just about anywhere. One of the easiest ways to make a vertical planter is to convert a hanging panel for shoes. Things You'll Need

  • Fabric shoe hanger
  • Soil
  • Water
  • Seeds or plants
  • Bar
  • Construction stapler and staples

Instructions

    • 1

      Hang the shoe hanger from a pole that is suspended horizontally.

      Staple the closure on the shoe hanger with construction staples to make it more equipped to hold the weight of the soil and the plants.

      Fill each pocket on the hanger about 3/4 of the way full with potting soil.

      Moisten the soil in each pocket with water.

    • 5

      Plant your seeds according to the directions on their packets.

    • 6

      Continue to water your plants as necessary. The fabric of the pockets should allow for adequate drainage. You may want to place a container underneath the planter to catch runoff water if necessary.
