Performance feedback is a way to assess your progress and correct errors in your performance.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Notebooks
  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Martial Arts Videos
  • Notebooks
  1. Step 1

Identify areas you want to target for performance feedback. Make realistic self-assessments on where you need to improve.

  2. Step 2

Ask the instructor to give you specific feedback while you execute a technique. Be gracious and show respect, regardless if you agree or not.

  3. Step 3

Practice simple techniques and stances in front of a wall mirror. Judge how well you perform against an ideal execution and then make adjustments.

  4. Step 4

Use a camcorder to videotape your performance during regular workouts or promotion testing. Write down areas to improve and create a practice plan with an instructor.

  5. Step 5

Consider private lessons to improve trouble spots. For example, if you have difficulty executing a spinning wheel kick, a private lesson may lead to some ideas on how to increase speed and power.

Tips & Warnings
  • Seek out those who perform techniques with excellent execution. Ask how they achieved mastery of the techniques and adapt what works for you.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity.
