Lift your log bed frame higher with a platform.

To convert a log bed into a platform bed you must build a platform for the log bed frame to rest upon. Having a platform bed can make a bed more prominent in a large bedroom and can also be helpful for lifting the bed above floor radiators to prevent the bed from blocking heat. Log beds are generally built with thick pieces of wood, so they will be stable as platforms if you make sure the platform you build is wider and longer that the dimensions of the log bed frame. Instructions

    • 1

Create a square using four pieces of the 2-foot-by-10-foot wood that stand upright so they will form a 2-foot-tall platform. Connect the edges of the wood with deck screws and the power drill. Make sure the edges are flush against each other on each of the four corners.

    • 2

Create a support system for the platform by securing the other two pieces of 2-foot-by-10-foot wood across the square frame. Secure the wood pieces to the square frame with deck screws and the power drill. The frame will now look like a square with two lengths of wood secured across it.

    • 3

Use the three pieces of 2-foot-by-5-foot wood to secure the two long wood pieces within the square platform frame. The three pieces of wood should cut across the long pieces of wood, so when you look down at the wood frame it forms a large letter "H" within the square frame.

    • 4

Attach a piece of medium-density fiberboard, or MDF, to the platform frame by drilling deck screws through it and then through each wood piece on the frame. The MDF should cover the frame completely, but not exceed the edges of the frame. Every side of the MDF must be secured to the platform with screws.

    • 5

Saw the other MDF to create side pieces for the platform to secure the log bed into place on the platform frame. Saw the side pieces so they will stand about a foot above the platform and cover the posts that the log bed stands on. Secure the side pieces with deck screws before placing the log bed on the platform bed frame.
